Template:Igen/cat

Note: This template is used on a lot of pages. In order not to put too much load on the servers, edits should be kept to a bare minimum. Please discuss proposed changes on the talk page first.

Editing a template causes all pages that use the template to be re-rendered. If the template is used often, this can put a lot of load on the servers since it fills up the job queue.
Keep in mind that templates that are used on file description pages also show up on other wikis.

This message box is using an invalid "type=query" parameter and needs fixing.

This subtemplate deals with a parameter which may be passed from elsewhere, and has an unknown format.

The template checks: when the 1^st parameter is a "-" (minus/hyphen), nothing is done;
otherwise it checks whether the 1^st parameter starts with "[[Cat":

if yes, it is passed for categorizing as-it-is;
if not, it is preceded with "[[Category:"

and trailed with (an optional sorting item and) "]]", and then passed.

The 2^nd parameter may be any sorting item:

to avoid: don't define it, or define as "-";
to use a space: define empty "2=", or " " or "␢".
